Gardening graduates receive seeds, tools, compost, and irrigation pipes to start their home gardens, which they can use to provide food for their families and generate income.
The Home Garden Refreshing Initiative helps our Gardening Training Center graduates take their new skills from the classroom to their own backyards. This program, led by Eduardo, a local agricultural engineer, and three dedicated part-time team members, equips students to launch sustainable home gardens tailored to Manchay’s desert climate. Upon graduation, each participant receives a starter kit that includes seeds, tools, compost, and irrigation pipes—everything needed to begin growing nutritious vegetables at home.
With continued guidance from the Communities for Life team, graduates use their home gardens to feed their families and create income opportunities through local produce sales. The program also provides step-by-step manuals and follow-up resources like fertilizer, ensuring that students can independently apply irrigation techniques, pest control methods, and seasonal planting strategies. The Home Garden Refreshing Initiative is a launchpad for long-term food security and economic empowerment in the heart of Manchay.
