The Baking and Pastry Program at the Life Resource Center is a vibrant, hands-on course led by a professional chef who guides students through the art and science of baking. Over several months, students learn to create both sweet and savory Peruvian favorites—such as alfajores (dulce de leche sandwich cookies), picarones (Peruvian doughnuts), empanadas, petipanes, and anise-flavored breads like Chancay and Karamanduka. They also develop techniques in cake baking and decoration, working up to a final project where they showcase their skills by designing and presenting beautiful celebration cakes.
Under the expert instruction of our chef, students not only master baking fundamentals but also gain confidence, precision, and pride in their work. Many students have gone on to start successful baking businesses from home, fulfilling daily orders and generating income for their families. The program has quickly become one of our most in-demand offerings, blending tradition, creativity, and career-building opportunity in every recipe.
Due to growing interest and the success of our alumni, Communities for Life launched an Advanced Baking Course in 2025. This new program provides graduates with deeper training in advanced techniques, presentation, and business readiness. From elaborate pastries to large-scale cake orders, our students are rising to meet the demand with skill, confidence, and flavor.
